South suburbs
South and southeast of the yard, reached mostly by the Tri-State and then 147th Street, 159th Street, Torrence Avenue or the Calumet Expressway.
- Calumet City
- Calumet City borders Hammond, so we set its snow route and sticker rules beside Indiana's stricter title law.

- In Downers Grove, 3 inches of snow in 24 hours starts a 48-hour street ban; how to sell a dead car before it hits.

- Westmont

- Near West Side
- Most Near West Side homes are in big buildings, and Madison Street falls under Chicago's 3 to 7am winter ban.
Northwest Indiana
Across the state line as far as Gary and no further. Indiana paperwork rules differ from Illinois; they're set out below the list.
- East Chicago
- Harbor side or west side, in a city that lets a nonoperating car stay on private property only 24 hours.
- Gary
- Glen Park to Miller Beach, in a city where a snow emergency can be declared with just 1 inch down.
- Hammond
- The only Indiana city on the Chicago line, where a car can sit on the street 96 hours at most without a permit.
- Highland
- Highland stickers a junk car left in public view and can tow it after 5 days, from a driveway too.
- Munster
- Pickups off Ridge Road and Calumet Avenue, where 2 inches of snow clears every car off Munster streets.
Indiana towns without a page, and Indiana paperwork
Besides the five Indiana towns above, we collect in Whiting, Griffith, Merrillville, Hobart, Lake Station and New Chicago. Hammond and East Chicago are reached off the Borman Expressway (I-80/94) and the Indiana Toll Road; Munster and Highland sit just south of the Borman along Calumet Avenue and Indianapolis Boulevard (US-41).
Indiana has its own paperwork, set by state law. Whatever the car's age, a recycler needs either the title, which the BMV replaces for $15 if it's lost, or a BMV certificate of authority on State Form 55018, which costs $4 to apply for (BMV fee chart; IC 9-22-5-18). Only a car 15 or more model years old can be sold without its title, and then only with that certificate. For anything newer with neither paper, buying it would be a Level 6 felony for the buyer under IC 9-32-9-29 (SEA 65, 2024), so we can't take it. Tell us what you hold and we'll confirm the route when we talk; the full comparison with Illinois is on our no-title page.
Where pickups stop
We don't collect in Porter or LaPorte County, so Portage, Valparaiso, Chesterton, Michigan City and La Porte are outside our range. The same goes for south Lake County: Crown Point, Schererville, Dyer, St. John, Cedar Lake and Lowell.
Not listed but inside Cook, DuPage or Will County? We very likely cover it; these pages are far from every town we visit. Send the address through the quote form and we'll confirm.
