Top dollar for junk cars in Flossmoor, from Governors Highway to Western Avenue

Will you pay top dollar for a junk car in Flossmoor?

Yes. Top Dollar Junk Cars buys dead and wrecked cars anywhere in Flossmoor and pays top dollar for junk cars by working the figure out from the car itself. The tow from our Alsip yard is free, and you're paid by Zelle, Cash App or cash when it's loaded. Our figure doesn't expire.

Flossmoor is a village of owner-occupied houses with a strict parking code and no highway running through it. Each section below takes one question a Flossmoor seller is likely to have and answers it with the village code open.

How does a tow truck reach Flossmoor when no highway runs through it?

On local roads. Map data shows no interstate, US route or Illinois route inside the village, or within about 250 meters of its edge. So the last stretch is always surface streets.

From the yard, the truck takes Cicero Avenue for about a mile, the Tri-State (I-294) for about 6.3, then 175th Street and Governors Highway into the village. That's about 12.7 road miles, or about 10 in a straight line. Once inside, Governors Highway, Flossmoor Road, Vollmer Road and Dixie Highway are the main arterials, and Kedzie, Western and Crawford Avenues run north and south. Flossmoor's Metra Electric station makes a handy landmark if your street is hard to describe.

Where can a dead car wait in Flossmoor until we get there?

Almost always the driveway. Of the village's occupied homes, 95.1% are owner-occupied, and 82.3% of all homes are single-family detached houses (Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020 to 2024). The parking chapter leaves a car that can't move few other choices.

The street is out at night: § 270-5-7 bans parking on every street from 3 to 6am, every day of the week. On weekdays, residential streets also carry a five-hour limit between 7am and 4pm (§ 270-5-3(A)). A car that can't be moved will fall foul of one rule or the other within a day.

The lawn is out too. No parking on any unimproved surface (§ 270-5-9), and none on a sidewalk or parkway (§ 270-5-2(J)). Alleys allow parking only to load or unload, with 10 feet kept clear (§ 270-5-2(L)), which suits a flatbed collecting a car but not a car waiting for one.

About one home in eight sits in a building of five or more units. If yours does, clear the pickup with the management or association first. After that, loading from the lot is no trouble.

Does it matter if my street is a Flossmoor snow route?

Yes. Once 2 inches of snow has fallen, parking stops on every village street until it's plowed (§ 270-5-2(M)), with exceptions near churches, schools and parks during their hours. The six snow emergency routes go further. Signs on Central Drive, Flossmoor Road between Governors Highway and Dixie Highway, Hawthorne Lane, Leavitt Avenue, Park Drive and Sterling Avenue ban parking from 7pm to 7am when two or more inches are down, and they mark the routes as tow-away zones (§§ 270-6-5 and 270-6-8). Parking stays off until the street is cleared curb to curb (§ 270-6-2).

Then there's § 270-6-3, written for exactly the trouble a dead car causes. A stalled vehicle on a snow route has to be towed or pushed off right away. If yours is parked on one of those six streets with snow in the forecast, the forecast is your deadline.

Street cleaning works the same way on a smaller scale. When posted signs say a street is being cleaned, parking there stops (§ 270-5-5).

How long can a car that won't run stay on a Flossmoor driveway?

In public view, roughly seven days before it qualifies as inoperable. Article 9 of Chapter 270 makes an inoperable vehicle, or its parts, a nuisance when it's in public view, on public or private property alike (§ 270-9-1). The definition is precise: engine, wheels or other parts removed or altered for at least 7 days so the car can't run under its own power (§ 270-9-6). Throwing a tarp over it doesn't take it out of public view (§ 270-9-2).

After a police notice, the owner must remove it. Seven days after that notice, police may remove it themselves, and the vehicle owner or the property owner pays (§§ 270-9-3 and 270-9-4). Only a car kept inside a building, or an operable historic vehicle over 25 years old, escapes the rule (§ 270-9-7).

On the street, things move faster. Parked on the street, a car counts as abandoned if it can't be driven, or if it hasn't moved for 24 hours and looks abandoned (§ 270-8-1). The village then sends a pre-tow notice by certified mail and sticks a notice of intent to tow on the car, and a hearing can be requested within 7 days (§§ 270-8-3 and 270-8-4).

What sets top dollar for junk cars in Flossmoor?

The car does. Your address doesn't. We work the figure out from what you're selling, and a Flossmoor pickup gets the same free tow as one a block from our Cicero Avenue yard, so nothing comes off for the distance. Our guide to what decides a junk car's value goes through what we look at.

Get a figure from the form at the top of this page and take your time with it. If you'd thought about a private sale from the curb instead, note that § 270-5-4 bans parking a car on a Flossmoor street to display it for sale.

Have the title? Good. Lost it? List the paperwork still in the glovebox or the drawer, say the insurance card, the registration or a bill of sale, and we'll check it on the call against what Illinois rules accept for a scrap sale. Selling a car with no title covers the basics.

Will you also collect from the towns around Flossmoor?

Yes, and their rules differ in ways that matter. Country Club Hills, on the north side, has the same 3 to 6am street ban but calls a car inoperable after 48 hours instead of seven days. Past Hazel Crest, Markham bans parking from 3 to 5am and clears both sides of every street once 2 inches of snow is down. Harvey, farther north, starts its citywide snow limit at just 1 inch.

Southeast, beyond Chicago Heights, Sauk Village treats a car under a carport, tent or awning as still being in public view. Homewood and Olympia Fields, which also share a border with Flossmoor, are on our pickup map too; the full set is in our list of service towns, and our Alsip page describes the village the truck sets out from.

Two more Flossmoor questions

I live on Embassy Row. Where will the truck load?

Plan on your driveway. Embassy Row and Imperial Court are resident and guest permit parking only (§ 270-5-10), so a dead car can't wait at the curb there without a permit. Tell us the street when you call and the driver will plan to load from the drive.

My car stalled on Flossmoor Road in the snow. What should I do?

Get it off the route first. Flossmoor Road between Governors Highway and Dixie Highway is a snow emergency route, and § 270-6-3 says a stalled car there must be towed or pushed off right away. If you'd rather sell it than fix it, call us, and we can often get there the same day.

Seven days after a notice, police can tow. Call first.
