Top dollar for Cicero junk cars, straight up the avenue from our yard
Who pays top dollar for a Cicero junk car?
We do. Top Dollar Junk Cars buys Cicero junk cars for top dollar, pricing each one from the car in front of us, and the truck comes up the same Cicero Avenue our Alsip yard is on. Towing is included at no cost, and payment is made at pickup: cash, or Zelle or Cash App if you prefer.
Cicero is crowded for a suburb: 85,268 people at the 2020 Census, the 11th-most populous municipality in Illinois, on 5.87 square miles. It's an incorporated town in Cicero Township, and its code is strict about cars that sit. The rules come first below, then the practical side of loading here.
What the Cicero code counts as an inoperable car
More than you'd expect. Under § 38-116(12) of the town code, letting an "inoperable motor vehicle" stay on private or public property is a nuisance, and the phrase takes in a car that runs fine but is missing valid plates, a state registration sticker or a town vehicle sticker.
| Code section | The rule | What it means if your car won't run |
|---|---|---|
| § 38-116(12) | Letting an inoperable vehicle remain on private or public property is a nuisance; inoperable includes a car with no valid plates, state registration sticker or town sticker | Expired plates alone can put a parked car in breach, your own yard included |
| § 38-117(d) | The town may ticket a vehicle with no current license or sticker that sits in plain view by placing the ticket on it | A car visible from the street can be ticketed where it stands |
| § 94-486 | On the public way, a car too damaged to drive, or unmoved for 7 days, is abandoned; one missing parts such as its wheels, motor, transmission or battery is derelict and can be impounded | At the curb, a week is the most a dead car gets |
| § 106-37 and § 106-39 | Residents' vehicles need a town vehicle license, and residing includes regularly storing or parking a vehicle in town; passenger cars cost $50 each for the first four in a household | A car that never moves still needs a sticker |
| § 106-42 | The transparent "Cicero" emblem goes on the lower right of the windshield, and not displaying it carries a $50 to $100 fine | One more fine for a car that earns you nothing |
Put together, a dead car in Cicero costs money whether it's in the yard or at the curb, and selling it before the tickets start is usually the cheaper path. For what sets our figure, see how we put a number on a junk car.
Loading a Cicero junk car: blocks, zones and trailers
Getting here is one long road. The truck pulls out of our yard onto Cicero Avenue (IL 50) and stays on it for nearly the whole trip, about 0.5 miles and then about 10.6 more on South Cicero Avenue, which crosses I-55 and the Sanitary and Ship Canal before it enters the town. A short hop along 31st Street and Laramie Avenue finishes it. That's about 12.8 road miles, about 11 miles direct.
Two-flats and older buildings
Just over half of Cicero's homes (54.7%) are flats or apartments in shared buildings, mostly buildings of two to four units (42.3% of all homes), and 54.6% are owner-occupied (Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020 to 2024). The housing is old, too: as of 2011 the average Cicero home was more than 66 years old. If you rent, the dead car may be parked on your landlord's property, so let the owner know a flatbed is coming. Two dead cars at one building? One visit can take both.
Major streets and sweeping signs
§ 94-280(b)(1) names Cicero's Major Streets, among them Cermak Road, Laramie and Central Avenues, and 16th, 26th, 31st and 35th Streets. On those and on residential streets, signs set the street-maintenance days and hours when parking stops, and each breach is a $50 to $100 fine. If the car is on a signed block, tell us the day on the sign. That's the date to beat.
Morton High School and Morton College zones
Two permit zones matter for a car that can't move: the "red zone" around Morton High School and the "blue zone" around Morton College. Inside them, § 94-196 requires a permit sticker to park from 12:01 to 9am. Mention the zone when you call and we'll plan the pickup with it in mind.
A car brought home on a trailer
From 9pm to 6am, § 94-275.A bans parking a trailer, or a car or motorcycle with one attached, on any street, alley or town lot, and Cicero tows those without notice. If you hauled the dead car home on a trailer, get the rig off the street before 9 at night.
Landmarks for the driver
The surviving tower of Western Electric's Hawthorne Works stands behind the Hawthorne Works Shopping Center near Cermak Road and Cicero Avenue. Town Hall is on Cermak Road, the old 22nd Street, and Hawthorne Race Course straddles the Stickney line on the south side. Up near Cicero Avenue and 26th Street there's the Metra BNSF stop, close to the Ogden Avenue interchange, and the CTA Pink Line ends at 54th/Cermak. Any of these is a fine reference point.
Papers last. A missing title isn't the end of it: say what is in the glovebox when you ring. Illinois law decides which documents can stand behind a scrap sale, so we check yours during the call; junking a car with the title lost explains the background. To start, use the pricing form up top.
Other towns we serve around Cicero
Chicago neighborhoods wrap Cicero on three sides, and Oak Park, Berwyn and Stickney take the west; we collect across all of them. Ogden Avenue crosses town as Historic Route 66 and becomes US-34 at Harlem Avenue in Berwyn, and that's the road our truck uses for the final stretch into Oak Brook, where every street is closed to parking between 2 and 6am. To the east, the Near West Side has Chicago's winter overnight ban (3 to 7am, December 1 to April 1) on arterials such as Madison Street. South down Harlem, Summit still has the kind of snow-parking rule Cicero dropped, and Bridgeview, farther along, clears parked cars off its streets from the first inch of snow.
Our yard sits at the other end of the avenue, in Alsip. The Alsip page covers that village, and our directory of pickup towns lists the rest.
Cicero sticker and parking questions
My car has had no Cicero sticker since it stopped running a year ago. Is that a problem for selling it?
Not for us. A missing town sticker doesn't stop the sale. It matters to the town, though: under § 38-116(12), a car without a current Cicero sticker counts as inoperable even if the engine is fine, and § 38-117(d) lets the town ticket it where it stands. Selling it ends that.
Is there a snow parking ban in Cicero I need to move my dead car for?
None that we could find. The old section on winter and after-snowfall parking, § 94-282, is now marked as reserved, and no snow-route rule has replaced it. Signed sweeping days are the bigger risk for a dead car.
Can Cicero tow my car over unpaid sweeping tickets?
Yes, once enough pile up. Under § 94-280, a vehicle with three or more overdue citations in a year can be towed on its next violation. If yours is close to that count, call before the next signed sweeping day; we can often load the same day you ring.
