Sell your junk car in Tinley Park, wherever it's parked

Where can I sell a junk car in Tinley Park?

Sell it right where it sits. Top Dollar Junk Cars picks up dead, crashed and scrap cars from driveways, lots and streets across Tinley Park, in the Cook County and Will County parts alike. Towing costs you nothing, and payment comes at loading in cash, by Cash App or by another app transfer. Same-day pickup is often possible.

Tinley Park covers 16.19 square miles across two counties, so the useful question is where the car is sitting rather than which ZIP it's in. The sections go spot by spot: the house, the condo or apartment lot, the shop or business lot, and the street.

Parked at a house in Tinley Park

Most sellers here own their home: owner households fill 86.9% of occupied homes (Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020 to 2024). Not all the houses are detached, though. 76.8% of homes are in one-unit buildings, yet only 54.6% are detached houses, so a fair share are attached homes such as townhouses. If an association manages the drive or lot in front of yours, check with it before pickup day.

The truck comes from our Cicero Avenue yard: about 5 miles south on Cicero, west on 159th Street (US-6) for about 3, south on Harlem Avenue (IL-43) for about 2, then onto 175th Street. About 11.3 road miles in all, or about 8 in a straight line. Our Alsip page covers the village the yard is in.

Why sell rather than let it sit? The village's nuisance list in § 98.02(F) includes motor vehicles that don't function and carry no valid license, collected or left anywhere in the village except as the code allows. That wording is broad, and it doesn't stop at the curb.

If the title's in a drawer somewhere, dig it out. If it's gone, list the papers you do have, perhaps the registration or an insurance card, and on the call we'll check which of them Illinois treats as enough for a scrap sale. Our page on selling without a title explains more.

Condo and apartment lots in Tinley Park

Close to a quarter of homes, 23.2%, are in buildings with two or more units. A lot pickup is no problem once the management company or condo association has said yes. Price it through the form at the start of the page, then tell us the building number and roughly where in the lot the car is parked.

A landmark helps the driver too. If your building is near the Tinley Park Metra station on Oak Park Avenue, or the 80th Avenue station on the same Rock Island line, say so.

When the car is at a Tinley Park shop or business lot

Repair shops are easy. Let the shop know we're coming, settle whatever you owe them, and we collect from their lot. If the repair estimate came in higher than the car is worth to you, our comparison of junking a car against selling it privately can help you decide.

Business lots work the same way once the owner has agreed, and a firm with more than one dead vehicle on site can have them all taken in a single visit. The main roads make directions simple: Harlem Avenue is the main north-south road, La Grange Road (US-45) clips the western corner, 159th Street crosses the northern one, and 171st Street lies entirely inside the village.

Selling a junk car that's stuck on a Tinley Park street

The street is where Tinley Park is strictest. Under § 73.09, every street in the village is closed to parking from 2 to 5am, any day of the week, so a car that died at the curb breaks the rule its first night.

Snow tightens things further. Once more than an inch is on the street, § 73.11 limits parking to 3 minutes for passengers or 30 for property, during the snowfall and for 8 hours after it stops, and on until the snow is cleared. Police may tow. The village's plowing plan kicks in at that same 1-inch mark.

Leave it long enough and a different rule takes over. A car on the public way that's in disrepair or can't be driven, or that hasn't moved for 7 days and looks abandoned, counts as abandoned under § 90.20. Before towing, the village delivers a notice in person or by registered mail and fixes a notice-of-intent-to-tow sticker to the car, and the owner has 7 days to ask for a pre-tow hearing (§ 90.23). And if you'd hoped to sell it from the curb with a sign in the window, § 73.10 rules out parking on a village street to advertise a car for sale.

The rules shift a little at the village line. In Orland Park, to the northwest, we found no overnight ban, but no car may be left standing at one spot beyond 24 hours. Country Club Hills, to the east, closes its streets from 3 to 6am and can treat a car as abandoned after 48 hours unmoved. I-80, Tinley's east-west expressway, also crosses Markham, where streets close from 3 to 5am, and carries on west to Joliet, which caps parking on a public street at 48 hours in a row. Other towns we serve are listed in our pickup directory.

What Tinley Park sellers want to know

Can I get overnight permission while my dead car waits on a Tinley Park street?

Yes, for up to three nights in a row. The village takes overnight parking requests through an online form, one vehicle per date, which gives you cover from the 2 to 5am ban while the sale is arranged.

I'm in the Will County part of Tinley Park. Do you come there too?

Yes. The village reaches into Frankfort Township in Will County, and a pickup there works exactly as it does in the Cook County part: free towing, and payment at loading. Give us the street address and nearest cross street.

My dead work truck is bigger than a pickup. Can it stay on the street until you come?

Better not. Under § 73.12 only passenger cars, station wagons and privately owned pickup or panel trucks of 3/4 ton or less may park on village streets, unless signs say otherwise. We buy larger trucks and vans as well; tell us the size when you call so the right truck comes.
