Sell a junk car in Country Club Hills, straight down Cicero Avenue

Where can I sell a junk car in Country Club Hills?

To Top Dollar Junk Cars. Our Alsip yard sits on Cicero Avenue, and the same road runs south into Country Club Hills, about 9.5 road miles away. Sell your junk car to us and the tow is free; you're paid as it's loaded. Wrecked, dead or stripped, we buy it, and we can often collect the same day.

Below, one Country Club Hills pickup from the first phone call to the moment you're paid, then a closer look at the city's 48-hour rule. Two days goes quickly.

How selling a junk car in Country Club Hills works, step by step

Nine in ten homes here are in single-unit buildings, and 74.0% are owner-occupied (Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020 to 2024). That makes a typical pickup a driveway or curbside job outside a house, and it runs like this.

  1. You call or send the form. Use the quote form near the top of this page or ring (773) 337-7836; we answer from 6am to 9pm, every day. Give us the year, make and model, what's wrong with it and the street address. A nearby landmark helps too, such as Hillcrest High School at 175th Street and Pulaski Road, or the police station on 175th.

Mention your papers at this point. No title? Say what you do hold, maybe a registration card, an insurance card or an old bill of sale. Illinois rules decide which of those work for a scrap sale, and we sort that out with you on the call. Our guide to selling without a title has the detail.

  2. The truck comes down Cicero. From the yard it's about 8.3 miles south on Cicero Avenue (IL-50), then a short hop along 183rd Street. (Cicero and 183rd is the corner where the city's first town hall was.) In a straight line you're about 8 miles from us. One quirk: inside the city, Cicero passes under I-80 and I-57 without ramps to either, which is why the driver wants a cross street rather than an exit.

  3. The truck stops where the code allows. During the day a flatbed can pull up at the curb or back onto the driveway. At night it's different: no one may park on any street from 3 to 6am, state highways included (Sec. 6.2.02(A)). Once 2 inches of snow covers a residential street, parking there stops altogether (Sec. 6.2.02(E)). If the car is in a garage, behind another car or on flat tires, tell us so the driver brings the right gear.

  4. Loading. The driver checks the car against your description and winches it on. Lost keys are fine if you've told us. Got a second dead car at the same address? One visit can take both. Our page on how the free pickup works covers what to have ready.

  5. You're paid before the truck leaves. Cash, Zelle or Cash App, your pick, and nothing comes off for the tow. There's a small bonus, too: the city sticker costs $25 a year for a passenger car, on a license year that runs July 1 to June 30 (Sec. 8.1.03 and 8.1.06), and a car you've sold is one you won't need a sticker for.

The 48-hour rule in Sec. 6.2.03

Plenty of suburbs give a broken-down car a week before the code calls it inoperable. Country Club Hills gives it two days.

Under Sec. 6.2.03(A)(2), a vehicle is inoperable once its engine, wheels, tires or other parts have been removed or visibly damaged for 48 hours in a row, or simply once it no longer moves under its own power. Cars kept inside a building, registered antiques over 25 years old and cars at a repair or wrecking business are exempt. Everything else counts.

The "abandoned" definition in (A)(1) reaches further than the word suggests. Lapsed state plates are enough on their own, for any car kept outside a closed garage. So does one that hasn't moved for 48 hours straight, whether it's on the street or on private land. Leaving either kind on a street, or letting one stay on your property, is a public nuisance under (D).

Covering it doesn't help. A tarp, or parking it in a structure that isn't fully enclosed, doesn't cure the problem (E). When police find one, they fix a notice to the vehicle demanding removal within 48 hours (G). The same subsection (E) gives an owner who is selling the car 30 days after notice, which is real breathing room.

What does that mean in practice? A car with expired plates sitting on the driveway is already on the wrong side of the definition, even if it ran last month. Selling it before a notice appears is the simple route.

When the car is just over the city line

On the run down Cicero, the truck passes through Midlothian, where a dead car gets the same short leash: two days in a residential district unless it's enclosed. Our Midlothian page sets out that village's rules.

To the north, Markham clears its streets from 3 to 5am instead of 3 to 6, and it lets a tow truck stay on a residential street for under two hours to move a disabled car. South of the city, Flossmoor shares the 3 to 6am ban but waits seven days before treating a car as inoperable. West, beyond the Cook County forest preserves that line the city, Tinley Park runs its ban from 2 to 5am and lets residents ask online for up to three nights of overnight parking.

Hazel Crest, Matteson and Oak Forest round out the border, and we collect there as well; the rest are on our page of pickup towns. Curious about the yard end of the trip? The Alsip page covers the village our yard calls home.

Selling a junk car in Country Club Hills: your questions

My car died on a Country Club Hills street last night. Will it be ticketed before you arrive?

It might be, so tell the police about it first. The city bars street parking from 3 to 6am, but a disabled vehicle may stay up to 24 hours once the police have been notified (Sec. 6.2.02(A)). Then ring us, and we'll try to get the car on a truck that day.

Can I leave the dead car in front of my own house for a few nights?

For three nights in any 30-day stretch, yes. The code lets an owner park overnight in front of their own home that often. After that the 3 to 6am ban applies again, and a car that hasn't moved for 48 hours can be treated as abandoned anyway.

My plates expired but the car is on my driveway. Does the city care?

It can. In Country Club Hills any vehicle kept outside an enclosed garage without current state plates fits the definition of abandoned (Sec. 6.2.03(A)(1)). Lapsed plates don't stop us buying it; just mention them on the call.

I'm near the I-57 and I-80 interchange. How should I describe where I am?

Use your street and the nearest cross street, not an exit number. Cicero Avenue runs under both expressways inside the city with no ramps onto either, so 167th Street (I-57 exit 346) or 175th Street make better reference points for the driver.

Plates lapsed or tires off? Call before the notice.
