Cash for junk cars in Midlothian, off Cicero and 147th

Will you take a dead car off my hands in Midlothian?

Yes. Top Dollar Junk Cars collects junk, wrecked and non-running cars all over Midlothian, about 4 road miles south of our Alsip yard down Cicero Avenue. The tow is free and you're paid as the car is loaded. Streets here must be clear from 2 to 5am and in snow, so call in the morning.

Midlothian is one of the closest towns in our directory of pickup towns, and its rules give a car that won't start very little time. Here is where we load, what the village code allows, and which streets flood.

Where we load in Midlothian

Cicero Avenue runs through Midlothian as IL-50, and 147th Street carries IL-83, the two sharing a stretch of road. A short piece of the Tri-State (I-294) falls inside the village, and Pulaski Road, Kedzie Avenue and the Midlothian Turnpike carry most of the remaining traffic. Village Hall, at 148th Street and Pulaski, is a handy landmark for directions.

About three-quarters of Midlothian's homes are single-family houses, and roughly the same share are lived in by their owners (Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020 to 2024). So most pickups here are from a driveway or the curb out front. Two rules shape where a dead car can wait for us:

  • Not on the lawn. No parking, stopping or standing on any lawn, grass or front-yard area unless the village has approved it; a standard paved driveway is fine (§ 10-15-24).
  • Alleys stay open. A car in an alley must leave 10 feet clear and keep off driveways (§ 10-15-6). Tell us if the car is in one and how wide it is.

One more rule worth knowing if you were weighing a private sale: no car may be parked with a "For Sale" sign anywhere in the village except on a licensed car lot (§ 10-15-4). If you're preparing a car for any buyer, our guide to selling a car to a junkyard, step by step lists what to sort out before the tow.

Midlothian's parking and inoperable-car rules

Midlothian is stricter than most of its neighbors about a car that doesn't run. From the zoning code and the parking chapter:

RuleWhat it saysIn practice
§ 4-18-22(B)(7)An inoperable vehicle may not be parked or stored in a residential district for more than 2 days unless it's in a garage or fully enclosed, and never in a front, side or rear yardTwo days, not two weeks, so a dead car outside needs a plan fast
§ 10-15-5No parking on any street for more than 30 minutes between 2 and 5amA dead car at the curb is in breach every night
§ 10-15-12No parking on any village street once snow passes 2 inches, until removal is finished; a car already parked must be moved firstA car that won't start can't comply

Next door in Alsip the window is a week rather than two days; our Alsip pickup page sets that village's rules side by side with this one.

Flooded cars and the streets that flood

Four watercourses cross Midlothian on their way to the Cal-Sag Channel: the Cal-Sag Channel Tributary, Natalie Creek, Midlothian Creek and the Calumet Union Drainage Ditch. The village's 2019 Stormwater Management Capital Plan studied flood problem areas in Jolly Homes, around 151st Street in the neighborhood known as Belly Button Hill, along Kenneth Avenue in Bremen Heights, and in the Natalie Creek corridor. The plan puts the trouble down to creeks that were channelized and wetlands that were paved, which leaves runoff pooling in low spots until the storm sewers catch up.

A car that sat in that water often loses its electronics, carpets and seats even when the body looks untouched. We still buy it. Tell us on the call how high the water came, because that is what decides which parts still have value. If the car was insured, flood damage is a comprehensive claim, and our guide to how an insurer values a totaled car sets out the Illinois payout rules.

Around Midlothian's borders

Midlothian shares borders with Crestwood, Markham, Oak Forest, Posen and Robbins. Markham, on the southeast side, runs its own overnight ban and tow-truck rules, and selling a dead car in Markham has its own page setting them out.

From the yard, Blue Island pickups run out along 127th Street, and Harvey, which borders Markham, is reached by 147th Street. Further south, Country Club Hills is reached straight down Cicero Avenue. Bring the title if you have it; if not, see which papers work without a title before you call, or put the car's details in the quote form.

Across the rest of the area, the home page explains how we pay top dollar for junk cars and how the free tow works.

Asked by sellers in Midlothian

My street has a 2 to 5am parking ban in Midlothian. Can you come early?

We can't promise an hour, but same-day pickup is often possible, so calling in the morning gives the car the best chance of going before night. The ban (§ 10-15-5) covers parking for more than 30 minutes between 2 and 5am on any village street.

Can I put a For Sale sign in the window while I decide?

Not on a car parked anywhere in Midlothian: § 10-15-4 allows For Sale signs only on a licensed car lot. That is one reason a dead car tends to go to a buyer like us rather than through a private listing.

Do you buy cars that sat in flood water?

Yes. Water damage lowers what the wiring, seats and electronics are worth, so mention it when you call, but it doesn't stop us buying the car.

Snow ban on the way? Call early.
