Sell your junk car in Bolingbrook, with the village code in mind
Will you tow my Bolingbrook junk car free if I sell it to you?
Yes, and the tow won't cost you anything. Top Dollar Junk Cars takes dead, wrecked and scrap vehicles across Bolingbrook, from Bolingbrook Drive through the middle of the village to the I-355 side. Sell a junk car here by phone or online and the money comes at pickup, as cash, Zelle or Cash App.
Bolingbrook is young next to most towns on our pickup map. It was incorporated in 1965, a planned "new town" built in the 1960s on the Gateway Wetlands on the Des Plaines River's west side, and with 73,922 residents at the 2020 Census it's second in Will County only to Joliet. The village code is strict with cars that don't run. Below, we set what people tend to assume beside what it actually says.
Selling a junk car in Bolingbrook: assumption versus code
Every line on the right comes from the village's nuisance chapter (Chapter 34) or its traffic chapter (Chapter 50).
| What people assume | What the code says |
|---|---|
| A dead car in the driveway is a private matter. | § 34-148 gives any vehicle that has no plates or expired state or municipal ones, or is wrecked, dismantled or inoperative, 5 days on private or public property. After that it's a nuisance. |
| A car cover keeps it out of trouble. | § 34-140(b) only exempts a junk vehicle, or a part of one, that's enclosed in a building and out of view. |
| If it's a tenant's car, the property owner isn't involved. | § 34-141 puts it on the property owner, who must remove an unattended nuisance vehicle or enclose it in a building. |
| Overnight on the street is fine outside my own place. | § 50-43(a) bans parking on any street, parkway, alley or other public place between 2 and 6am, unless the police have been told first and have approved it. |
| Expired plates only matter when you drive. | § 50-33 fines a car parked on a public street with expired state registration $25, and each day is its own offense. |
| I can fix it at the curb and drive it away. | § 50-35 allows only emergency repairs on a street, enough to get the vehicle moved. |
| Nobody tows a car that's just sitting there. | § 50-47 lets the village treat a car parked illegally for 7 continuous days as abandoned and impound it. |
| Snow rules are for the main roads. | § 50-38 bars parking on any public street, parkway or public place while snow removal is under way, once more than 2 inches has fallen, and until the work is done. |
| A junk buyer's truck can wait at the curb while the paperwork gets sorted. | § 50-48, added in 2022, keeps vehicles used to buy, sell or collect junk from parking more than 10 minutes in a residential district, and its definition of junk takes in secondhand motor vehicles. |
Put together, a car that doesn't run has 5 days in the open in Bolingbrook before it's a nuisance, and no legal night on the street at all without police say-so. The last row matters for the pickup itself: with a 10-minute limit on junk-collecting vehicles in residential districts, we'd rather settle where the car is, where the keys are and what papers you hold on the call than at your curb.

Driveways, townhouses and lots
Houses dominate here. Detached single-family homes are 71.9% of its housing units and attached ones another 14.2%, with 11.4% in buildings holding five or more homes, and 79.1% of occupied homes have an owner living in them (Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020 to 2024). That makes the driveway our usual loading spot. Got two dead cars on one drive? We can take both in the same visit. In a townhouse or apartment lot, clear it with the association or the manager before we come.
The way in from Alsip
Our trucks set out from the Alsip yard on Cicero Avenue, take the Tri-State, then Joliet Road onto I-55, the Stevenson, which runs through the southern part of the village. About 12.9 miles on the Stevenson and about 1.7 miles on Weber Road bring the truck to the middle of Bolingbrook: a total of about 28.4 road miles, against about 20 miles in a straight line. In the Bolingbrook and Romeoville area, I-55 has interchanges at Weber Road and at IL-53, which is Bolingbrook Drive, the road down the middle of the village. I-355, the Veterans Memorial Tollway, runs along the far east side; its junction with I-55 here was once the tollway's southern end.
Street names that changed
Several main streets have had other names, and older paperwork may still show them. Hassert Boulevard was 111th Street, Rodeo Drive was 119th Street and Veterans Parkway was Naperville Road. Historic Route 66 survives as Frontage Road, and its alignments met at Welco Corners, which is now part of Bolingbrook. Clow International Airport makes another easy landmark.
The towns around it
Bolingbrook borders Woodridge, Romeoville, Plainfield, Darien and, to the north, Naperville, whose own street ban runs from 2 to 5am instead of 2 to 6am. Joliet, Will County's largest city, takes another approach, with a 48-hour cap on leaving a car on a public street. Our Downers Grove and Westmont pickups leave the Tri-State for Wolf Road and 55th Street rather than I-55, and both of those villages share Bolingbrook's 2 to 6am window.

Bolingbrook code questions, answered
Can I get police approval to leave my dead car on a Bolingbrook street overnight?
Yes, in principle. § 50-43(a) allows parking between 2 and 6am only once you've notified the police and they've approved it. A night's approval doesn't touch the 5-day limit on a vehicle that doesn't run, though, so treat it as a stopgap until pickup.
My registration still says 111th Street. Will the driver find me?
Yes. 111th Street is Hassert Boulevard now, and 119th Street became Rodeo Drive. Give us the current street name if you know it; if you only have the old one, say so and we'll match it on the call.
Is a car with expired plates in my Bolingbrook garage a problem?
Not under the 5-day rule, which makes an exception for a vehicle enclosed in a building and out of view (§ 34-140(b)). On the street it's another matter, since § 50-33 fines expired registration there by the day. Either way we'll buy it; just describe how it's parked, nose in or tail in, before the truck sets off.
